John D. Diesing Sr., known to most as Jack Sr., was the recipient of the 1969 ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez Award. His creation of CWS of Omaha, Inc. in 1967 as the local non-profit organizing committee and the role he played as Chairman of that board for over 30 years, were instrumental to the success of the College World Series in Omaha.
The NCAA's deep respect for Diesing's contribution to the success of the event was evident by its endorsement of the John D. Diesing Sr. Award, given annually since 1999 by CWS of Omaha, Inc. to the most outstanding player of the series.
A graduate of Creighton University Law School, Diesing's career goes back to 1941 when he joined the FBI. He was owner of Skipper Diesing Manufacturing Co. from 1945 to 1947 and joined J.L. Brandies and Sons in 1947, where he worked for 33 years.
Named after the great Lefty Gomez, this annual award is presented to an individual who has distinguished himself among his peers and has contributed significantly to the game of baseball locally, nationally and internationally. The Lefty Gomez Award is sponsored by Wilson Sporting Goods.
