The 2010 recipient of the prestigious ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez Award was ABCA Hall of Famer Charlie Greene.

Charlie Greene was the head baseball coach at Miami-Dade Community College/South from 1968-96. Greene, who served as ABCA President in 1990, had an overall coaching record of 935-485 (.658).

Greene led Miami-Dade to three State championships ('70, '78, '81) and two JUCO World Series appearances, claiming the national title in 1981. That same year, Greene was named the NJCAA Coach of the Year.

In 1988 and 1989, Greene served as the head coach of Team USA. Throughout his career, Greene was an advocate for the growth of baseball internationally, speaking at the International Sports Group European Winter Baseball/Softball Clinics many times.

Greene is a member of the FCSAA Hall of Fame and the JUCO World Series Hall of Fame.

Greene remains an active member of the ABCA, currently serving on the Board of Directors and the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee.

Named after the great Lefty Gomez, this annual award is presented to an individual who has distinguished himself among his peers and has contributed significantly to the game of baseball locally, nationally and internationally. The Lefty Gomez Award is sponsored by Wilson Sporting Goods.
